Choose your training pathway

Start with your goal. Use existing suitable classes and your coach’s guidance to plan your next steps.

Beginner pathway

Build a confident start

Use your first six weeks to build a routine, practise safely and connect the basics. Ask your coach which existing classes fit your experience.

  1. Weeks 1–2: learn safe practice, movement and the main positions.
  2. Weeks 3–4: practise escapes, control and working with a partner.
  3. Weeks 5–6: connect skills in suitable practice and discuss your next focus with your coach.

Self-defence pathway

Practise awareness, escapes and getting to safety

Tell your coach that practical self-defence is your goal. Agree suitable practice in awareness, boundaries, distance, escapes and getting back to your feet. Sport training and self-defence situations have different demands.

  1. Start with awareness, boundaries and disengagement.
  2. Develop movement, escape and control skills with suitable resistance.
  3. Review what you can apply and what needs more practice. No course guarantees safety.

Competition pathway

Train with an event and a purpose

Discuss your experience, goals and readiness with your coach. Develop rules knowledge, a simple game plan, purposeful rounds and a review of what you learn.

  1. Choose a suitable event and ruleset with your coach.
  2. Build repeatable skills and practise tactical decisions in appropriate rounds.
  3. Review your preparation and performance, then agree the next training focus.

Build consistency. Review your progress.

Choose a realistic routine: one suitable session each week builds a habit; two gives you more opportunities to revisit skills; three or more can support broader practice when recovery and your coach’s advice allow. Attendance alone does not establish readiness. More demanding training depends on demonstrated skill, safe practice and consistency.

Pathway guidance uses classes covered by your membership and appropriate to your age and experience. It does not add a separate membership charge. Private coaching, event entry, travel and kit are separate unless specifically agreed. Ask about Next Gen 10 for junior development; selection and any support are confirmed individually.
