Two valid reasons to train

Train for yourself

Regular training for fitness, skill, confidence or enjoyment is valuable. Membership does not commit you to competition.

Test your skills

If you want to compete, discuss goals, experience and readiness with your coach. Preparation should match the event’s rules and your stage of development.

Meet the coaching team →

Onyx is developing a serious competition culture through the work in the room and the events our athletes and coaches enter. The evidence matters more than a label.

Athletes building their own record

Monét David won the 2025 IBJJF European Kids No-Gi title in Dublin and heads to Lisbon for the 2026 event. Her academy biography also records two British Open titles, an Elite BJJ National title and a previous No. 9 IBJJF division ranking. She competes in gi, no-gi and MMA and hopes to pursue a combat-sports career.

Read Monét’s competition story and photo gallery. Follow her Lisbon campaign alongside the results and achievements that brought her there.

How development connects

  1. Good coaching. Understand the task and the technical details that make it work.
  2. Build repeatable skills. Link movement, control and decision-making.
  3. Increase the challenge. Add appropriate resistance and more demanding rounds as skills develop.
  4. Prepare for the rules. Discuss tactics, training priorities and event readiness with your coach.
  5. Compete and review. Bring the lessons from external competition back into the room.

Our grappling connection runs through ZR Team Milton Keynes and the wider ZR Team UK banner. Read Alain Pozo’s story and the ZR Team affiliation and the dedicated Northampton BJJ site. We are interested in developing more shared competition rounds across that network; new leagues or camps will be announced only when confirmed.
