A serious local kickboxing programme

Learn kickboxing properly from the start.

Onyx Combat Academy provides structured kickboxing classes in Northampton for children and adults. The programme is built around sound stance, clean technique, distance management, movement, defence and combinations rather than simply throwing people into hard rounds.

Beginners can start with the fundamentals while more experienced students continue developing timing, speed, decision-making and controlled partner work. Competition is available for students who want it, but there is no pressure to compete.

What you will train

  • Stance, guard and footwork
  • Punching and kicking mechanics
  • Distance, timing and defensive movement
  • Combinations and counter-attacking
  • Pad work and controlled partner drills
  • Fitness developed through technical kickboxing training

Onyx Kickboxing Programme Lead

Chris Collymore

Chris runs the Onyx Combat Academy kickboxing programme in Northampton. Kickboxing GB currently lists him as Head Coach Juniors, while its athlete pathway page also lists him for Juniors & University Games.

His work spans grassroots development through to national-team coaching. Kickboxing GB identified Chris as Head Coach of the Youth Squad at the 2025 WAKO Youth European Championships. His championship report records a Great Britain team of 129 athletes making 198 starts in a field representing 41 nations.

He also brings significant competitive experience. Official WAKO results record Chris as the 2015 WAKO Senior World Champion in veteran men’s -63 kg Point Fighting and the 2014 WAKO European Champion in the same division. Earlier WAKO European results also record a 2010 veteran semi-contact European title at -69 kg.

Kickboxing GB also lists Chris as Chair of its Referees Committee. That combination of coaching, competition and officiating experience gives the Onyx programme direct access to current national-team standards, rules, scoring and athlete-development expectations.

At Onyx, that experience is channelled into a clear pathway for local students: build strong fundamentals first, develop confidence and athletic ability, then move towards competition only if that is the athlete’s goal.

Latest: Chris has returned from the 2026 WAKO Youth World Championships in Jesolo, where Great Britain finished top of the overall medal table for a fourth consecutive year. Read our 2026 Youth Worlds report.
